Compose a literary analysis of from four to six paragraphs in which you compare/contrast the two poems. Focus on their most significant similarities and/or their most significant differences.
Here are the two poems:
1. Ablaze in Summer
by Margaret Dale
Scent of honeysuckle, so fragrant, sweet
as one’s memories of childhood freedom.
Glide through July on liberated feet,
wander aimlessly and joyful through some
empty field, now and then the sound of bees
abuzz beneath a cloudless sky so blue
it shimmers; and off in the distance trees
stretch out their winsome arms with leaves of hue
as fresh as backyard watermelon fests . . .
we spat the black seeds at one another.
Our hearts engendered mirth within our chests
‘til the voice, afar, of someone’s mother
called out the time had come to amble home—
youth ablaze in summer’s lovely poem.
2. Magic Morning
by Margaret Dale
First, a drop in temperature,
then blankets, quilts, a cat’s purr,
a fireplace with evening flame;
a window like a picture frame
yields us twilight’s angel-glow,
the whistling wind begins to blow.
In the morning, come first light
curtains open on the sight
of powdered snow upon the lane,
Wonderland returned again.
