Congratulations! You have been unanimously called as the new pastor of a congregation. Joyfully, you accept the call. As your ministry commences, however, it quickly becomes plain (contrary to what you were told during your candidating process) that this congregation has not experienced a consistently sound ministry of preaching for several years. Consequently, the congregation, including the highest level of leadership, possesses no clear understanding of what preaching is.
Nonetheless, two very important facts encourage you: 1) the leadership is longing to learn and mature; and, 2) they very much desire the same for the congregation. So you wisely conclude that your instruction of the congregation must begin with the leadership itself.
Your task on behalf of the leadership is to write a persuasive paper (approx. 10-double spaced pages) that provides them with a clear biblical apologetic for preaching, and also articulates the practical implications of choosing this biblical priority for ministry (the implications for you as pastor, the other leadership, and the entire congregation).
