How can we use social disorganization theory to better understand American workers’ experiences transitioning to remote work during the pandemic?

This 5-page essay assignment will require you to use your “sociological imagination” by using a sociological concept we’ve learned to guide your understanding of an empirical, “real-life” social problem. Please use one theoretical approach we have learned this semester and apply it to a social problem that you think can be analyzed and understood empirically through this theoretical framework.
theories you need to use:
-Symbolic Interactionism
Example Research Question: “How can we use social disorganization theory to better understand American workers’ experiences transitioning to remote work during the pandemic?”
REAL QUESTION: HOW CAN WE USE SYMBOLIC INTERACTIONISM THEORY TO BETTER UNDERSTAND GENDER INEQUALITY IN PROFFESIONAL ENVIRONMENTS SUCH AS SCHOOLS, AND OR BUSINESSES/JOBS.
ONE MAIN ARTICLE MUST NE USED ASIDE FROM THE 2 OTHER OUTSIDE SOURCES
Your paper must include the following:
Introduction:
Your paper introduction should provide a brief overview of the rest of your paper. Introduce a clear research question (i.e. the question about the social world that you want to investigate), the theory you plan to apply to it, as well as 1-2 sentences explaining why you think this question might be important for a sociologist to understand.
Social Problem Summary:
Next, provide an overview of the social problem that you are interested in. You may choose a social problem we discussed in class you’d like to learn more about or another problem you’ve seen in the news recently that you find personally interesting. Make sure you include the following information:
-A brief summary of the social problem (make sure that anyone reading your paper would come away with a good understanding of your case study, regardless of their familiarity with the subject)
-Where there any events or social context that led to the creation of this social problem?
-Who thinks that this is a social problem? (Ex. Democrats vs. Republicans; young generation vs. older generation, etc.)
-Remember that social problems are reflective of the specific societies that we live in. What values or norms is this problem perceived to threaten?
-Is your social problem objective or subjective?
Make sure that if you reference any outside sources, like news articles or OpEd pieces, you fully cite them.
Theory Summary:
In this section, you should provide an overview of the theory you have chosen. Make sure that you give a detailed enough summary that anyone reading your essay would have a full understanding of it. Additionally, please provide a brief discussion of why this theory is applicable to your case study.
Analysis:
In this section, you should focus on applying your theory to your case study to better understand why it is a social problem and what social factors might have led to it. Some questions to consider:
-How would your theorist react to your case study? What would they find interesting or how would they attempt to explain this social phenomenon?
-How would they apply their sociological concepts to this case? What would it reveal?
-Does your case study reveal anything that the authors of your theory missed or didn’t cover?
-Do you think viewing your case through this theory changes how we should talk about it or reveal a solution to the problem?
Remember, this section should focus on viewing your social problem through a theoretical lens rather than your own opinions.
Additionally, in this section please cite 2 outside academic sources that relate to your discussion. These sources may be used to strengthen your argument or compliment the theory you’ve chosen to use. For example, if you’re interested in workers’ experiences transitioning to remote work during COVID, you might include a couple articles recently written about how workplaces have adapted to a new social environment. These articles should be woven through your analysis to strengthen your argument and provide further evidence. Whatever sources you use, please make sure that they are from a peer-reviewed source. I recommend using Google Scholar. If you have any questions about what constitutes a peer-reviewed source please let me know asap.
Conclusion:
Your conclusion should briefly and succinctly summarize your research question and any conclusions you have come to in your analysis. Additionally, your conclusion should include one or two sentences indicating why your conclusion might be useful to scholars moving forward and why your findings are important.
